Advice from Your Accountant: Make Sure You File Your Business’ Annual Report

HomeBlogAdvice from Your Accountant: Make Sure You File Your Business’ Annual Report

If you run a business in North Carolina, you must file a report every year with the state’s Secretary of State to maintain your registration and continue to run a legal entity. Your annual report should include information about your company and whether it currently conducts business. The only time you no longer have to file an annual report is when you officially dissolve your business with the state.

Advice from Your Accountant: Make Sure You File Your Business’ Annual Report

Our accountants can help you prepare to file your annual report this year. We want to remind you that annual reports must be filed by April 15, so if you haven’t already filed, make sure you do so as soon as possible.

Filing your business’ annual report is a simple and straightforward process. To file, follow these steps:

  • Search for your business’ name on the Secretary of State’s website.
  • When the results show up, click on the monitor icon under the “Actions/Type” button. As you scroll over each icon, it will tell you what you can do.
  • If your business currently doesn’t have a monitor icon, open up your profile and click “File an Annual Report/Amend an Annual Report.” You will be able to see all the annual reports you have previously filed. Only the entities listed must file an annual report.
  • Once you locate the monitor icon, click the “File Most Recent Annual Report” button to move forward with the filing process.
