As a small business owner, you know how severely a natural disaster can affect your operations, your stability, and your profits. In light of recent flooding and tornadoes in July, the U.S. Small Business Administration recently announced that it would open a Disaster Loan Outreach Center in Durham County. This outreach center supports small businesses, private nonprofits, and residents affected by the recent tornadoes and flooding brought by Tropical Depression Chantal.
This outreach center opened on July 30, 2025, and representatives from the SBA continue to help individuals affected by these disasters at the Durham County Library, North Regional Branch. This branch is located at 221 Milton Road, Durham, NC 27712. Representatives from the SBA help business owners and individuals by providing guidance, answering questions, and helping with paperwork. While walk-ins are welcome, you can also schedule an appointment through the SBA’s appointment portal.
Those affected by the recent natural disasters are encouraged not to wait for an insurance settlement prior to applying. Depending on the situation, the SBA can issue loans for the full loss immediately. Then, insurance proceeds can be used to reduce or repay the loan.
While the disaster outreach center will close on August 31, the deadline to submit a loan application for physical damage is September 23, 2025. If you want to submit an application for an economic injury loan, the deadline is April 27, 2026.
